Science behind Opticrom

Allergy and hayfever eyes result from an allergic reaction. This happens when your immune system (your body's natural defence system) overreacts to a normally harmless substance.

These include tree, flower and grass pollens, but also mould and fungal spores, dustmites and animal dander (flakes of animal skin, hair and feathers). These substances are commonly known as Allergens.

When you come into contact with an allergen, the cells in the lining of your nose, mouth and eyes release a chemical called histamine. This binds to special receptors (sites) on other cells called H1 receptors, which trigger the symptoms of an allergic reaction. These include sore, itchy, watery or puffy eyes and often sneezing and a runny or blocked nose and sinuses. Doctors commonly refer to these reactions as Allergic Rhinitis. Those symptoms affecting the eyes only are called Allergic Conjunctivitis.

The active ingredient in Opticrom Eye Drops, Sodium Cromoglicate, inhibits the release of histamine and hence relieves symptoms of allergic reaction.

Opticrom Eye Drops bring fast-acting relief to the symptoms of Allergic Conjunctivitis and can soothe sore, irritated, watery and itchy eyes in as little as two minutes.
